History, Trivia and Contemporary Society

Why?

WDFor the last few decades, our society has acted just about as foolishly as at any other time in history. (The last days of the Roman Empire come to mind.) Now we’re ripping down history’s road with only two choices left open to us. Either we’re on the brink of a cool new Renaissance, way better than the last one, or we’re about to enter another Dark Age, this one so desolate it’s gonna make Mordor look like recreational property. Me? I’m kind of a “the glass is half full” type of guy, so rather than sit this one out, I’ve decided to throw in with some other like-minded people who are trying to edge our world away from the abyss. My hope is that I can argue down the dark side long enough (and loud enough) to keep some of our society’s better ideas — like courage, pragmatism and common sense — alive, until wiser, bolder and better people than me can step forward. In other words, I’m certain that saner heads will prevail in our world; I’m just not sure if the cavalry’s gonna get here in time.

“History teaches us that men behave wisely once they’ve exhausted all other alternatives.” Billy Connolly (Still Crazy)

This is great news for a world that is rapidly running out of options.
